FROG Pick Grapefruit

A beautiful sunset shining in the sky met the crescent moon glowing, reminding everyone that the day was almost gone but the night was just getting started. This was the setting that our FROG group enjoyed as they picked grapefruit from one of our Advisory Board member’s home. The youth members actively showed their excitement by running, jumping, and even climbing the tree. Anyone walking by could hear the thrill of this experience as the kids laughed, talked, and shouted. This was a very good activity for everyone involved. After picking the grapefruit, the kids took it to the Corps so that it could then be distributed to others in our Corps and to our Social Services clients and other community members. It took less than hour for the tree to be emptied.

The owners of the tree, Alan and his wife, have lived in this home in Mesa for over 40 years. From the time that this grapefruit tree first bore fruit, they have donated the fruit to The Salvation Army. It was very encouraging to them to see our youth and the neighborhood kids go and pick the fruit. Also it was very encouraging for the youth to see this Christian home. Psalm 1:3 says, “That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”
