Chili Cook-Off Meets Super Bowl Sunday

For ten years, the Mesa Citadel Corps has been having a Chili Cook-off to “kick off” the annual Super Bowl game. This year, 13 contestants brought their special chili recipes, all vying for first prize. The three judges, representing Mexico, China, and Indonesia, had the challenge of trying all of the scrumptious concoctions in order to declare a winner. Although this was difficult, a winner and two runners-up were announced. One community member and two of our youth won the top three spots. During all of this time, those who had come to fellowship and eat together waited patiently for their turn to try these delicious dishes, in addition to other food that was brought to this cook-off and potluck. Finally, their wait was over, and everyone ate and had their fill as they enjoyed talking and laughing together. After the potluck commenced, our Corps members, local community people, and some people who live on the streets came together to watch the Super Bowl, spend time with one another, and eat delicious food. We hope that this activity will continue to grow and help those in our Corps continue to develop relationships with those in our community. May we truly be a light in this community so that we can demonstrate and share Jesus’ love with others.
